Whether we like it or not, we have been propelled into the age of the Internet. Be it by computer or inexpensive Internet Web TV, we now live in a world that is glutted by information which intrudes at the speed of light into your already hectic life.
In a word, “Get over it and get into it. It’s here to stay!” :-)
The advent of inexpensive Web TV allows a computer illiterate consumer to send and receive e-Mail and, most importantly, to surf-n-shop the Internet while lounging on a recliner in their living room. The significant drop in computer costs and the acceptance of Web TVs has literally exploded the usage of the Internet.
The Internet is the new major advertising media.
A website, logically, has now become the least expensive form of “TV” advertising that is currently available!
According to a poll published in USA TODAY on February 19, 1997, in the United States alone there were a total of 47 million people, not total households, but people (both male and female, young and old) using the Internet.
In a few short years, that number has grown dramatically, exceeding even the most optimistic estimates! This is evidenced by the following statistics:
- September 25, 2000 InternetStats states: There are 172,300,000 English speaking people on line.
- September 25, 2000 DomainStats states: There are 29,374,480 domain names registered worldwide.
- September 25, 2000 Netcraft states:
- There are approximately 19,823,296 websites on line.
- There are 18,050,955 “.com” domain names registered.
- Inktomi and the NEC Research Institute states:
- July 31, 2000 there are approximately 1 billion web pages on the Internet!
- August 30, 2000 the US will have 103 million new Internet users joining their online population by the year 2004, but online merchants must adapt to these changing demographics or risk losing their profitability.
- September 07, 2000 the US is still ahead in terms of Internet penetration with over 51 million households connected.
- September 2002 NUA Internet Surveys states that there are 605.60 million people on line world wide with 182.67 million of those in the USA and Canada.
- July 03, 2003 Netcraft states that there are approximately 42,298,371 websites on line.
- November, 2004 ClickZ stated that there were 137,996,052 home Internet users in the United States and 281,165,829 world wide.
- December, 2005 Netcraft survey received responses from 74,353,258 websites world wide, with approximately 35,000,000+ of those active.
It is obvious that the ever growing masses of Internet users will seek out their business and personal needs via their computers and Web TVs.
In today’s fast paced global economy, the potential for reaching millions of customers is staggering! However, is this lofty goal really attainable?
Yes! The ease and speed of accessing the Internet today, the exponential growth in the number of surfers on the web, coupled with the relatively low cost of a well crafted, dynamic website and very inexpensive website hosting, makes worldwide marketing and advertising a reality!
The undisputed truth is: “Every business that will be successful in the 21st century will have established a multifaceted Internet presence very early on.”
In spite of its infancy, the Internet has already become the primary information source for the entire world.
The Internet is the new, worldwide mass media!
